There had been a disturbance in Knockturn Alley. One of the shoppes there was under attack by someone. Or something. The ministry had been notified through the use of the killing curse. Within a matter of seconds of being alerted, aurors arrived at the shoppe. Harry Potter, Kingsley Shacklebolt's daughter, Ron Weasley, and Teddy Lupin. All four were considered the best of the present aurors. Unfortunately things had not gone as planned. The culprit had the same appearance as the dead shoppe owner on the ground meaning the use of polyjuice potion. More had shown up, wearing the masks only Ron and Harry knew all too well. The group of four became split up. Everything happened so fast that it was hard to remember every detail. A flash of green, this time love nor a part of the dark lord's soul saved the boy who had lived. Only two of the three people left saw the light leave Harry's eyes. Teddy and Ron. Only a hour had passed since Teddy had witnessed what happened to the only father figure that he had known. A time-turner would have been useful, if they had not all been destroyed after the second war was over. A time-turner would have let him get to Harry before the wizard had used the killing curse on him. He was steps away from being there though was in his own duel. A duel that he could have left and ran towards Harry's own. St. Mungo's had no reason to hold the body of the boy who lived except for the arrival of his family. Family that Teddy had to see in pain that he perhaps could have prevented. They all could have prevented it. Ron wasn't at the hospital anymore, having gone home to Hermione, who was too in shock to visit. Teddy sat outside the room, waiting for the Potter family to arrive. His own face was tear stained though he had nothing left to let out. It was like his grandmother all over again except this time was different. He was alone. There were the rest of the Potter family and Weasley family though those people couldn't replace the parents that he never knew or the parental figures that he had grown up knowing.

Laying on her bad that evening, Lily would have never guessed the string of events that were about to occur. Her day had been spent cleaning and doing laundry, packing the things away that she wouldn't need until school started. Albus would occasionally pop in and distract her, but she didn't mind. Not today, at least. The redhead tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, laying in a room that once belonged to one of her crazy ancestors. It was when she heard a knock of the door that she turned her head slightly, murmuring a 'come in.' It was her mum looking pale and uneasy. Apparently, Teddy had owled and said that they needed to get to St. Mungo's. Things like this had happened before. With her dad being an auror, it wasn't uncommon that he got injured and ended up in the hospital. It was like part of their job description. Lily sat up, slipping on her shoes before walking down the steps and into the long living room area. Waiting for her brothers to follow suit, they apparated into town.
Again, she was sitting. Waiting alone. Lily sat, looking at her hands in her lap, feeling weary. Her mum and brothers hadn't come back. It was never like this. Standing up, Lily walked over to a Healer, asking where her father's room was. The Healer nearly choked out a sob before apologizing, telling her the room number. That was all she needed to know. Picking up the pace, Lily began walking down the hallway, her cheeks burning. She didn't see her family, but she saw Teddy. "Ted, what's going on." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. Something had happened and he knew. "Where are they? Is my dad in there or is he in surgery?" Her breathing had quickened, running a hand through her hair anxiously. Not wanting to wait any longer, she reached out, moving to open the door.

He had sent a owl to the Potter family to inform them of what happened before the ministry could get around to it. The owl was sent to Ginny, who had to be the first to know out of the Potter family. The owl that he had written her, only said that they needed to get to St. Mungo's. He had added that it wasn't good. Teddy could've wrote that he had passed away except he didn't want Ginny to be freaking out on the way there. For her to be unable to come like Hermione, who had found out from Ron's own owl. The family had arrived within a matter of minutes to the hospital, walking up to his room. Ginny and the two boys had went in, not stopping to say anything to him. The looks exchanged between him and them told the same story. Their appearance made him wonder where Lily was, since he was sure that Ginny would have brought all of them to the hospital. They had all grown used to knowing that aurors could end up in the hospital. It had happened at least once before to each of the three men that had been at the attack. Due to them being considered some of the best, there wasn't much to worry about. The Potters and Weasleys were used to the worry of harm, but the worry of death? It was something untold of, since the war had ended.
Teddy stayed in the chair outside of the room, waiting for someone to appear. The silence in the hall was beginning to get to him, making him think back to any memories that he had of Harry. The last time that he had dealt with death, it was his grandmother that he had lived with throughout his whole life. When she had died, he had dealt with it pretty bad. This meant that he relied on alcohol to get through his grief at least until Lily had helped him snap out of it. In his hand was the wand that had been fixed by the Elder Wand by Harry, the wand that had been with him since the first time that he went to Ollivander's. Harry's wand. He rolled it around in his hands as he was sat forward, looking at it. His eyes avoiding contact with any of the nurses or healers walking by. That was until he heard her voice. Lily's voice, wanting to know what was going on. He didn't answer her though stood up as she went to reach out for the door. He stopped her though, standing in front of the door, putting the wand in her hand. Teddy said, "He's gone..." His own voice was slightly broken since he didn't know what to say after those words.

It wasn't the truth. There was no way. Her father was a warrior. He had defeated the Dark Lord himself. Surely, some wayward idiot couldn't have killed him, right? Right?! Lily looked down at the wand in her hand, her eyes glossing over. "...You're bluffing. Lily attempted to move around him, pushing her hand that was gripping the wand against his chest. "Let me see him, Teddy!" Her voice cracked, now raspy as her struggle to move inside began to waiver. Her head rested against his chest before Lily let the wand fall from her hand, moving to press her back against the wall, sliding down to a sitting position- immediately bringing her knees up to her chest, sobbing. "Were they going to wait until we got home to tell me? Lily shook her head covering her face with her hands. The pang that she felt in her chest physically hurt. He would never see her off to her first last day of school. He wouldn't get to see her graduate. She would walk down the aisle without her dad. He wasn't supposed to go. He was supposed to be invincible. And so, she cried.
Standing up, Lily walked bleary eyed into a "crying room." It was actually a waiting room for families and was sound proofed for obvious reasons. Lily let the door shut behind her before yelling as loud as he lungs would allow her. Then, the pacing began. Wiping her eyes, she finally stopped in the middle of the room before moving to sit down on a sofa. A nurse had come in to check on her, which Lily promptly sent a hex hurdling her way. The nurse went squealing out of the way and out of the room, leaving a glaring redhead in her wake. Grief quickly followed, a strangled cry escaping her throat once more. Her dad was gone and no one would be bringing him back.

When it made the headlines of the daily prophet, it was bound to throw numerous amounts of people into shock and chaos. They had always known peace since Harry had defeated the dark lord. The older wizards and witches had known that if any threat presented itself, he was always there 'saving the day' as Lucius Malfoy would have put it. Harry may not have been the minister, but he was a leader of sorts in the eyes of a lot of people. He had been the head auror since he was promoted and had proven to help keep the wizarding world safe. It was a hard task, but not for him. Some people talked about the possibility if anyone stronger than Voldemort came along, would he able to survive? Most people saw him as being invincible, including his daughter. He had blocked the way for Lily, not letting her go into the room and had given her the wand. The wand wasn't his to keep and considering everything the boys had, he had held onto it for Lily. Even if she didn't want it right now. Teddy said, "I'm not bluffing, you know I wouldn't joke about something like that. And not right now." Perhaps he was protecting her from going in as he had been forced to when Andromeda had died. Lily was younger than he was at the time that Andromeda had passed, so perhaps he thought it wasn't best for her to see her father that way right now. His arm was making it's way around her though she moved, sliding down the wall to sit. She was sobbing and honestly, he didn't know what to do or say since he felt the same way. It had been much easier when one of them was grieving since the other wasn't as much as the other. She began to question if her family was going to wait until they had gotten home. Ginny and the boys were in the room still which was another reason why he had stopped her. He leaned against the door, unsure of what to say.
She had gotten up and left him there. Shortly after she had walked away, the door began to move, so he moved out of the way of the door. Before the person could come out of the room, he picked up the wand and stored it in his pocket for the present time. The person that walked out was a healer, who only apologized for what had happened. A squeal came from the end of the hallway and he turned to look from the healer to the nurse running out of the room, squealing as if someone had just tried to attack her. Following the direction that she came from, he found Lily when he heard the cry that she had let out from the room. Walking in, he sat next to her and said, "I don't know why they didn't stay with you, so that they could tell you themselves and I'm sorry for not letting you in there..." He put his hand on her shoulder as he tried his best to comfort her.

Lily rocked forward in her seat, looking over at the figure that was entering the room. Letting out a shaky breath, she watched as Teddy sat down beside her; his hand reaching out to her slumped shoulder for comfort. Her lips trembled before she leaned into him, her hand reaching up to wipe tears away that had fallen, or rather, that didn't want to stop falling. "Don't apologize for them." Lily shook her head slightly, closing her eyes for a moment. She had been through this before with Teddy, but it wasn't nearly this bad. They were both much younger and Lily didn't have an emotional attachment to Andromeda, so she was able to comfort him. This time around, they were both very upset and comforting each other was going to be a challenge. "What happened?" she finally murmured, still not looking up at him. He saw her dad last. She still didn't think she was going to go into his room to see him. Lily didn't necessarily want to see him until he was cleaned up. She didn't want that to be the last image of him in her head. Teddy was right in not letting her go in...of course; he was always right. "I'm coming home with you." Lily finally looked up at him, her cheeks and nose a shade of red from crying. "I can't go back to the house...he's everywhere, there. I don't even want to be here any longer. I can't go see him...not like that, Teddy." Lily rested her head against his shoulder again, her eyes dry and uncomfortable. This was going to be an awful night.

There wasn't much to be said between the two for comfort. She had lost her father, while he had lost a father figure. He was managing to hold himself together better than Lily considering he had the time to grieve when he had been where it happened. It was rare to see him cry over anything though there had been two times that he had. When Andromeda died which was in front of Lily, who had comforted him then. Then the second time was when Harry was killed though before that, he had tried to stun the bastard who had done it. Unfortunately, he had apparated before either Ron or Teddy could do anything. The others had apparated as well. Having followed Lily, he had sat next to her with his hand on her shoulder which led to hear leaning into him. He said, "Someone has to." Ginny and the boys were probably looking for Lily by then, wondering she had went from where they had left her. They also would have noticed Teddy missing from where he had been sitting. Knowing how close the two were, Ginny most likely thought Lily was with him. The two could have had the same sibling bond as the rest of the family and him except they didn't. It was different between them as if they were rather close friends and not like siblings. It was hard to determine why it was different between them for him, but it just was. In his mind, he thought of her as a sister like the rest of the family. Though really, he didn't. He just played it off as being the same as the rest of the family, if that made any sense to anyone else. There was some silence between the two before she asked what happened. He said, "There was a disturbance at Borgin and Burkes with Burkes dead. Whoever killed him had used polyjuice potion or was a metamorphmagus since they took the appearance of Burkes." They still hadn't the slightest clue who killed Harry due to the fact that they never saw the person's real appearance. All that was known was that he had followers which meant a new reign of terror was bound to start up. Teddy said, "That person was the one who...Ron and I were dueling whoever was with him, so we were too late..." He had stopped in mid sentence since he wasn't about to say, 'who had killed Harry'. It was easier to say gone as if he was on a vacation or had just left a building than being dead or killed. He had also stopped before he could say what they were too late to do. Before silence could really set in, he said, "You can stay as long as you want. We can leave soon, after I find your mother and let her know.." She could have objected to Ginny knowing the knowledge that Lily would be with him, but he wasn't going to leave with not letting her know. Having grown up as a part of the family, he held a high respect for them to not hide anything from them. His arm was around her, while her head was rested on his shoulder.

She was a hot head. Lily didn't understand why he would apologize for her family that had left her in a waiting are for an hour. All because she was the "baby" of the family and they "didn't think she could handle it." However, there wasn't a correct way to deal with death, especially the death of a family member; her father. Lily just shook her head, glancing back down to her hands. She didn't want to move, that is, unless they were leaving. Unlike the rest of her family...and except Victoire...Teddy didn't feel like a brother. Maybe it was because of the age difference, or maybe it was because it was over the last several years that they became really close. But when something major happened in her life, she wanted him to be around. This was no different. The thought of going back to her home almost made her sick. The pictures of their family were all over. His shoes and briefcase still sat in the floor by the steps, despite her mum's protests. He was in every inch of that house and she couldn't bare it. Not now and not anytime soon. She felt like a coward. Like she was hiding from this problem that wasn't ever going to go away. Lily had finally asked the question of how it happened. She listened to Teddy, her eyes stinging as he spoke. He paused and she understood why, but appreciated it. It made it sound too real. Lily nodded slightly against his shoulder, murmuring, "Thank you." She sighed softly, feeling absolutely emotionally exhausted. "Can we go find them? I really don't want to be here." She didn't want to see them, but if he insisted they find her mum, then what could she really do? "My grandparents will be here, soon and I really don't want to be here for that." That would be a disaster...an even bigger one. When her nana started crying, she didn't stop. With her dad being dead...well, one can imagine her reaction. Lily tilted her chin up so she could see Teddy. He looked to tired...so drained. They both needed to get out of here. It wasn't doing either one of them any good. Besides, Lily was ready to go finish off that stupid, bloody nurse.

Usually when someone would grow up alongside a family, they would have been considered a member of that family. It was common when best friends had known each other all their lives. All of the Weasley and Potter kids thought of him as an older brother since he was the oldest out of all of them. He had thought of them as younger brothers and sisters except for Victoire and Lily. When he had first considered going out with Victoire, it was a weird thought since despite him not thinking of her that way, the rest of her family did. For a year, he avoided asking her out since he felt that it was wrong. That was until Harry had talked to him about the situation since he had probably seen that they both liked each other. Despite the two year difference between them, they had started dating. Things ended up complicated between the two that would result in two times of being with each other. Each time that they had ended things, he rarely fell into a serious relationship. Instead, he was with a different girl not everyday, but often. A year ago, his grandmother had passed away leaving him as the last member in his own family. That was not counting the family that had disowned his grandmother for marrying a muggleborn wizard. When he had lost his grandmother, it had been Lily there for him instead of Victoire though that wasn't her fault. He wouldn't his own girlfriend in about his emotions or feelings though let Lily. Or more like Lily made him open up to her. It was the fiery temper that she had inherited from Molly. It was both a blessing and a curse. A majority of the time, a curse since he had to put up with it from her, Rose, and Molly. It wasn't until recently that he had paid attention to how she looked considering their age difference was quite a gap. The two had gotten along from the start though didn't grow close until several years ago. When she started school, that was when they began to have more in common. He could relate more to a teenager at school than a little girl that was nine years younger than him. It was due to the younger members of the family that his nickname had remained the same despite it feeling outgrown for him by everyone else. She had asked about what had happened to Harry. If he had a choice between visiting the family or staying in his own home and inviting them over there, he would have chose that. Going to the Potter home would have hurt even him too much since he had a lot of memories with Harry there despite never living there. It was common for him to be found at the Potter house for dinner. It was also common for him to feel as if father and son moments were going on, when the three Potter children were too young to do things. Such as flying around on a broomstick, something he never grew to love as much as the Potters or Weasleys, preferring to be on the sidelines of the games. He had suggested to find Ginny to tell her that Lily was staying with him for a little bit. Thankfully, it was something that she didn't argue with him about. Teddy said, "We can go find them now before they get here." It was definitely necessary to find Ginny and the boys before Molly and Arthur were to arrive. Teddy was close to both of eldest Weasleys, more so Molly than Arthur. Molly never once mentioned that he was from a different family, it was as if he was a grandson to her. It was especially common for him to stay with her after the battle of Hogwarts when he was unable to stay with Andromeda or Harry. So the two were close despite them not being related. Before either of them had gotten up, she had tilted her chin to look at him. Considering he had been up since early that day and after having gone through everything from the day, he was drained. He was tired from all the events of the day. Plus, he felt uneasy about being in St. Mungo's since it was the last place that he had seen his own grandmother. While a year had passed, it still didn't make being in the hospital much easier. In fact, if she had looked closely, his typical hazel eyes were blue reflecting his own feelings. Teddy was more in control of his abilities than he had been as a child though sometimes his mood affected his appearance. Even his hair appeared darker, almost like a black as they had gone on with their conversation. Her appearance was similar to his minus the changes in her hair and eyes. She was drained from the crying and looked upset since her family still treated her like the baby. Staying in the hospital wasn't doing any good for either of them. Getting up before he could say anything else to her, he stood up and offered his hand to her saying, "Well, let's go find them before that nurse comes back, squealing like a pig again." Teddy wasn't capable of reading minds though he had seen the nurse and his face had a slight smile on it for that second before they were to go looking for more grieving souls.

Lily watched him; watched how the color of his eyes had darkened to a shade similar to hers. She knew how he worked, knew him like the back of her hand. She wouldn't say anything, but she was more worried about him and the image left behind from this evening. When he had stood up, she watched, nearly smiling as she took his hand. "She had it coming." Instead of letting go, she held onto his hand with both of hers, like she had done so numerous times before. It felt different. She felt safe. Victoire always hated the easiness in which Lily related to Teddy. Lily could sit down near them and fall into conversation with him almost immediately. It was confusing now that she was older. Now that she was going to be turning eighteen, things were slowly becoming clearer to her. She was slowly being forced to grow up at a rate that she hadn't expected. Standing up, she walked with him towards the door in which she had fled from. Her grip tightened as she neared closer, stopping before she could enter the room- moving to the side. "I-- I can't," Lily choked out, feeling the color drain from her face. Lily had turned her head to look at him when the door opened, drawing her attention. Her mum walked out, bleary eyed and red in the face, pulling a frigid Lily into her arms. Lily closed her eyes immediately, not wanting to see the image of her father beyond that door. Reluctantly, Lily had released Teddy's hand, her arms finding their way around her mother loosely. Standing there for a few moments, Lily took a step back, standing beside Teddy. "I know you're not planning on leaving anytime soon...but I can't stay here...I'm gonna go with Teddy." Ginny nodded pulling her into another quick hug before moving to embrace Teddy. "He loved you, Teddy Bear, and so do I." Her mum eventually let go of him, smiling sadly before walking past them and down the hall to greet her nan and pap. Lily took his hand again before leading him out of the hospital and apparating them to his place. It was wordless. She didn't know what to say...what not to say. Letting out a small breath, she released his hand and began walking towards the door without him.
